A foxy conversation on the Polar Bear Photo Safari. George Turner photo.
Akkach · 7 months ago
Cute and frisky, Arctic foxes are nomadic animals that follow polar bears onto the ice in search of food throughout the winter. During the summer they form family groups. The mother and father both care for the young and sometimes a female kit from a previous litter joins in to help care for the new pups. In the wild, Arctic foxes only live for 3-4 years, as there are many predators to evade, including eagles, polar bears, wolverines, red foxes and wolves.
If you’ve seen the classic photo of an Arctic fox nosediving into the snow, they aren’t playing, they’re hunting. Their hearing is so good they can hear lemmings moving underneath the snow. They pounce when they get close.

The grizzly bear (Ursus arctos horribilis)
DinRat · 8 months ago
Grizzly bears are known to break down car and house doors like there's nothing to it. They are one of the strongest land animals. Grizzly bears have massive bodies, can grow as tall as 8 feet, and weigh 900 pounds.

A grizzly bear preys on big animals like cattle, caribou, and black bears. It also feeds on fish, berries, fruits, nuts, and roots. Grizzly bears routinely lift huge rocks and logs out of their way in search of food. They are not good tree climbers, but they run fast, covering 35 miles in one hour.

In 2006, researchers at Montana State University experimented to test the strength of grizzly bears. They found that one grizzly bear had the strength of 2 to 5 humans. Sam the bear easily lifted a 700 pounds dumpster can and, with one paw, turned over a 675-pound stone.
Teddy bear bee (Xylocopa varipuncta)
Shalgara · 8 months ago
Many people believe that all bees have yellow and black bodies. Imagine their surprise when a purely golden bee landed in front of them. The male valley carpenter bee or teddy bear bee has a fuzzy golden body. It has pretty green eyes, making it one of the most adorable bugs ever.

Male valley carpenter bees are less common than females. These cute bugs don't have stingers, so they are harmless. However, if you run into a teddy bear bee, the little guy will do an excellent job of scaring you off. You can also read more about the different types of bees a click away.
Great Bear Rainforest, British Columbia, Canada
Bongsong · 9 months ago
The province of British Columbia is known for its many magnificent forests with humungous trees. For a forest lover, this area of Canada is the ultimate therapy. The Great Bear Rainforest is special firstly because it’s literally the size of Ireland. Sometimes called the ‘Amazon of the North’, the forest is full of wildlife, cascading waterfalls and ancient cedar trees. In this wilderness, though, roads only get you so far. Sailing along the BC coast is one of the coolest ways to experience the area, and if it’s in your budget, its also possible to experience the rainforest by flying above it. If you’re lucky, you might even spot the white Kermode bear!
