The use and production of nitrogen fertilizer account for up to 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Sound Agriculture is working to address #climatechange by using #biotech to enable nitrogen fixation, one of the grand challenges in #ag. Travis Bayer, Co-founder and CTO, speaks about the challenges of the agricultural industry and how Sound Ag hopes to overcome those.

About Sound Agriculture:
Sound is advancing two novel technology platforms that leverage plant and soil biology to radically improve food production. The company’s first product, SOURCE™, which sold out in 2020 and 2021, is a bio-inspired alternative to synthetic fertilizer for corn and soybeans, with more crops currently being trialed. This nutrient efficiency platform is poised to replace 30% of global nitrogen fertilizer use—the equivalent of removing 200 million cars from the road, with patented technology that allows crops to access more nutrients from the existing soil microbiome.
The second is Sound’s on-demand breeding platform, which offers a paradigm shift in breeding by accelerating plant trait development ten times faster than current technologies. Their unique approach uses epigenetics to enable natural plant differentiation, making it possible to grow healthier, tastier, more affordable, and sustainable food, using fewer inputs.
