Between 2009 and 2014, three animals were pulled out of the water in south Florida that were neither.

The DNA came back as Nile crocodile. Native range: sub-Saharan Africa. About four thousand miles away.

The testing showed something else too. The three of them were closely related. And they did not match the legally held captive animals in the state that were sampled.
