Clash leaves several injured at Kathalia
Sonamura, Aug 12: Several workers of ruling BJP and INDI Alliance were injured when a clash erupted between the two groups at Kathalia block area during the counting of three-tier Panchayat polls on Monday.
The counting was peaceful in the three other blocks under the Sonamura sub-division. At Kathalia, the situation was boiling since the morning. After the announcement of the poll results, the two groups engaged in a clash.
Six injured persons- Dhananjoy Debnath, Ashis Paul, Prantosh Shil, Delwar Hossain, Satikul Rahman and Rajib Paul were taken to Sonamura sub-divisional hospital in Melaghar. After the preliminary treatment, they all were referred to GBP hospital.
In the first round, the counting for Bejimara, Rabindranagar, Srimantapur and Shovapur village was held. The CPM-Congress alliance secured the Bejimara Gram Panchayat, sending a wave of disappointment among the ruling party workers. There were speculations that the three other Panchayats will also go to the CPM-Congress alliance but the results were in favour of the ruling party.
As per the latest report came in, the counting for remaining 17 Gram Panchayats, 13 Panchayat Samities and three Zilla Parishad seats are still underway.
