Pleurothallis nipterophylla
Ripon · 6 months ago
This Pleuro is a cool to intermediate growing epiphyte from Ecuador. The somewhat stiff leaves curve a little forward so that when the blooms appear it looks like the leaves are protecting the flowers. Cool looking plant that also stays nice and compact! These are specimen size plants that took many years to grow. Wonderful hardy plant tolerant of drying out a bit between watering. Can flower more than once per year. Each leaf produces flowers for many years .

Haworthia cooperi ‘OB1’ my friend
Ripon · 6 months ago
Haworthia cooperi ‘OB1’ my friend @marinsect_gianluca is growing. Hoping to get this into the conservatory collection soon. Haworthias can be addictive.. so many different forms. They are one of the few succulents that make good houseplants but also do well outside. #haworthia #haworthiacooperi #haworthiacooperiob1 #succulents #plants #succulentsofinstagram
All our Vanilla planifolia are blooming this week

All our Vanilla planifolia are blooming this week. Making sure we pollinate every single flower so we get fruit in 9 months! Videos of pollination make it look so easy... when you have to climb and contort your body to get to the flower it gets a bit more complicated. #vanilla #vanillaplanifolia #orchids #orchidsofinstagram
Pleurothallis marthae

Pleurothallis marthae… this Orchid is a prolific bloomer . We have it growing in a cool room but it can take a bit warmer temps… up to mid 80’s. For a Pleurothallis it’s a nice one 😜

West Indian Fuzzy Chiton (Acanthopleura granulata)
Ebook · 8 months ago
The West Indian Fuzzy Chiton mainly lives from southern Florida to Panama, including Mexico and the West Indies. It thrives on high-intertidal rocks, enduring harsh and variable conditions.

This type of mollusk doesn't grow beyond 2.8 inches in length. Spiky and banded with various hues of black, its girdle encloses the creature's plates, acting as an exterior armor.

Now, the shell of chitons typically comprises eight distinct plates. The West Indian Fuzzy Chiton, though, presents an anomaly. It boasts a fifth valve, split into two symmetrical halves. These halves function independently from the other, separated by a griddle-like tissue.
Pleurothallis truncata
KisuKotha · 8 months ago
This funky flower made our list because it’s so weird it doesn’t even have a nickname! The flowers look like horizontal, orange Lily of the Valley, but they are actually a member of the orchid family. They are part of the Pleurothallis genus to be exact, also called Bonnet Orchids for their tiny blooms’ resemblance to little baby bonnets. They can grow in a variety of different ways, as brush cover, as climbers, clumped and trailing, or as tall cane-like plants. Unlike regular orchids, these orchids prefer cooler temperatures and low moisture; they grow most comfortably at very high altitudes.
