The earwig has a pair of horny forceps-like tail filaments, or pincers (cerci), at the posterior end of the abdomen, with those of the male being larger and of a different shape than those of the female. It has been suggested that the pincers may function in defense, in catching insects and holding them while eating, in helping to fold the hindwings under the forewings, or during courtship fights for possession of a female. When alarmed or aggressive the earwig carries the cerci over its body in a scorpion-like manner. In some species, earwig females exhibit maternal care, defending and feeding the newly hatched immatures.

নিন্মের বৈশিষ্ট্যসমূহের মাধ্যমে বাহ্যিক ভাবে পুরুষকে পুরুষ বলে চেনা যায়। টেসটোসটেরন, গ্রোথ, থাইরয়েড হরমোনসমূহ এই বৈশিষ্ট্য প্রকাশের জন্য দায়ী । সাধারণত ১২ থেকে ১৪ বৎসর বয়স থেকে এইগুলি প্রকাশিত হয়।
১) পুরুষাঙ্গ আকৃতিতে বৃদ্ধি পায় এবং উত্তেজিত হলে উত্থিত হয়
২) গলার স্বর গাঢ় ও মোটা হয়।
৩) বগলের নীচে, বুকে, যৌন অঙ্গে কেশ দেখা দেয়। এছাড়া দাড়ি, গোঁফ গজানো শুরু হয়। বিপরীত লিঙ্গের প্রতি আকর্ষণ জন্মে।
৪) কাঁধ প্রশস্ত হয় এবং মাংসপেশী সুগঠিত ও শক্ত হয়।
৫) তৈল গ্রন্থিও নিঃসরণ বৃদ্ধি পায় ও ব্রণ হয়।
প্রধান জনন অঙ্গ (Primary Sexual Organ) : ডিম্বাশয় বা ওভারি (Ovary) । ডিম্বাশয়ে ডিম্বাণু বা ডিম্ব তৈরি হয়। এই ডিম্বাণু পুরুষের শুক্রাণুর সাথে মিলিত হয়ে নতুন জীবন (Zygote) তৈরি করে ।
এখান থেকে ইস্ট্রোজেন ও প্রজেসটেরন নামক হরমোন নিঃসরণ হয় ।
সহযোগী অঙ্গসমূহ : জরায়ু, ফেলোপিয়ান টিউব বা ডিম্ব নালী, যৌন পথ, ক্লাইটরিস, স্তন ইত্যাদি ।
স্ত্রী সেকেন্ডারি যৌন বিশিষ্টসমূহ : সাধারণত ১২ থেকে ১৪ বৎসর বয়স হতে দেখা যায়।
ক) মাসিক শুরু হবে,
(খ) স্তন স্ফীত হওয়া শুরু হবে,
(গ) যৌনাঙ্গে ও বগলে কেশ দেখা দেবে,
(ঘ) কোমর বড় হবে ও নিতম্বে মেদ জমবে,
(ঙ) বিপরীত লিঙ্গের প্রতি আকর্ষণ জন্মাবে,
(চ) সমস্ত শরীরের ত্বকের নীচে মেদ জমে এর উজ্জ্বলতা বাড়বে ও শরীরকে নমর করবে, ইত্যাদি।
ইস্ট্রোজেন হরমোনের কাজ (Function of Estrogen):
১) স্ত্রী জনন অঙ্গসমূহ আকারে বৃদ্ধি করে,
২) ডিম্বকে পরিপক্ব করে,
৩) মাসিকের পরে জরায়ুর আবরণীকে (Endometrium) পুরু করে এবং পূর্বের অবস্থায় নিয়ে আসে,
৪) জুনি পথের আকৃতি বৃদ্ধি করে,
৫) স্ত্রী লোকের মেয়েলী বৈশিষ্ট্যসমূহ প্রকাশে সাহায্য করে।
৫) স্তনের নালীর পরিমাণ বৃদ্ধি করে।
৬) স্তনে মেদ বৃদ্ধির মাধ্যমে এর আকার বড় করে।
৭) জরায়ুতে প্রবিষ্ট শুক্রাণুকে ডিম্ব নালীর দিকে নিয়ে যায় ইত্যাদি।
স্ত্রী প্রজনন অঙ্গ (Female Reproductive Organs)
প্রজনন অঙ্গ সমূহ মানুষের বংশবৃদ্ধিতে সক্রিয়ভাবে অংশ নেয়। আলোচনার সুবিধার জন্য দুই ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়।
১) স্ত্রী লোকের বহিঃ প্রজনন অঙ্গ সমূহ (External Female Gentialia)
২) স্ত্রী লোকের অন্তঃ প্রজনন অঙ্গ সমূহ (Internal Female Gentialia)
বহিঃ প্রজনন অঙ্গ সমূহ (External Gentialia):
১) মন্স পিউবিস (Mons Pubis ): তলপেটে সবচেয়ে নিচের নরম অংশ যাহা চুল দ্বারা (Pubic Hair) আবৃত থাকে।
২) ল্যাবিয়া মেজোরা (Labia Majora): মাংসল ঠোটের ন্যায় যাহা ভেষ্টিবিউল- তথা যোনীদ্বার ও প্রস্রাবের নালী মুখকে আবৃত রাখে।
৩) ল্যাবিয়া মাইনোরা (Labir Minora ): মেজোরার ভিতরে লাল মাংসের ন্যায় অংশ।
৪) ভেষ্টিবিউল (Vestibule): ল্যাবিয়া মাইনোরা দ্বয়ের মধ্যবর্তী অংশ। এর উপরিভাগে প্রস্রাবের নলী শেষ হয় এবং নিচে যোনীদ্বার অবস্থিত।
ক) যোনীদ্বার (Vaginal Orifice/Opening): ভেষ্টিবিউলের নিচের অংশে থাকে। কুমারী (Virgin) মেয়েদের ক্ষেত্রে পাতলা পর্দা (Hymen) দ্বারা আংশিক আবৃত থাকে। বাকী খোলা অংশ দিয়ে মাসিকের রক্ত বের হয়। যৌন মিলনের ফলে ও লাফ ঝাপ দিলে বা সাইকেল চালালে এই পর্দা আংশিক ছিন্ন হয়। সন্তান প্রসবের ফলে পুরোপুরি ছিন্ন হয়।
খ) মূত্রনালীর মুখ (Urethrsl Orifice): ক্লায়োটরিস এর নীচে ও যোনীমুখের উপরে অবস্থিত। এই ছিদ্র দিয়ে প্রস্রাব শরীর থেকে বের হয়ে যায়।
৫) ভগাঙ্কুর বা ক্লায়োটরিস (Cliotoris): এটি ক্ষুদ্র মাংসল অঙ্গ। একে ম্পর্শ করলে তীব্র যৌনভাব হয়।
জরায়ু (Uterus):
এটি একটি মাংসল অঙ্গ। পেটের হাইপোকন্ডিয়াক অঞ্চলে, মূত্রাশয়ের পিছে ও রেক্টামের সম্মুখে অবস্থিত। গর্ভধারণের পর জরায়ু বিশাল আকার ধারণ করে ও পাতলা হয়। স্বাভাবিক অবস্থায় এর আয়তন ৩ * ২ * ১ ইঞ্চি।
এর তিনটি অংশ:
১) ফান্ডাস (Fundus),
২) বডি (Body),
৩) সার্ভিক্স (Cervix )
জরায়ুর ভিতরের আবরণী কলাকে এন্ডোমেট্রিয়াম (Endometrium) বলে, যা মাসিকের সময় ধ্বংস হয় ও পরে পুনরুজ্জীবিত হয়।
কাজ:
১) বাচ্চা ধারণ করে,
২) মাসিকের সময় এন্ডোমেট্রিয়াম ধ্বংস করে রক্তের সাথে বের করে দেয়।
যোনী (Vegina):
এটি একটি মাংসল অঙ্গ যা প্রসারিত হতে পারে। এর গায়ে অনেক গ্রন্থি আছে যা থেকে রস নিঃসরণ হয়। সঙ্গমের সময় এতে পুরুষাঙ্গ প্রবিষ্ট হয়। এটি যোনিমুখ থেকে সার্ভিক্রা পর্যন্ত বিস্তৃত। এর পিছনে পায়ুপথ ও মলাশয় থাকে।

Papilio glaucus, the eastern tiger swallowtail, is a species of butterfly native to eastern North America.
