রাজধানী ঢাকা বলতে নাগরিকরা বোঝেন ইটপাথরের এক শহর। এখানে সতেজ নিঃশ্বাস নেওয়া যেন বিরল ঘটনা। তবুও আশা ছাড়েন না কেউ কেউ। সবুজ প্রকৃতি চেখে দেখতে বাসার ছাদে গড়ে তোলে বাগান। কী নেই সেই বাগানে– আম, সফেদা, জামরুল, কলা, পেঁপে, ড্রাগনসহ বিভিন্ন প্রজাতির ফলের গাছ; রয়েছে বাগানবিলাস, গোলাপ, কাঠগোলাপ, জবা, অলকানন্দা, নয়নতারাসহ নানা রকমের ফুল। তাছাড়া শাকসবজি তো আছেই। বাগানের পরিচর্যা নিজেই করে থাকেন প্রকৃতিপ্রেমীরা।
এই প্রকৃতিপ্রেমীদের একজন আফতাবনগরের ‘ডি’ ব্লকের বাসিন্দা রুমেলা হক। এক যুগ ধরে তিনি নিজ হাতে তৈরি করেছেন ছাদবাগান। রুমেলা বলেন, ‘বিকেল বা সন্ধ্যায় ছাদে উঠলে সারাদিনের ক্লান্তি ভুলে যাই। সামান্য ফুল-ফল-সবজির মাধ্যমে লাভবান হচ্ছি, তার চেয়েও বড় কথা পরিবেশের ভারসাম্য রক্ষায় যুক্ত হতে পেরে ভালো লাগছে। আমার চারতলা বাড়ির ছাদের নিচের ফ্ল্যাটের তাপ গরমের দিনে সহনীয় থাকে। কারণ ছাদজুড়ে রয়েছে গাছপালা। ছাদবাগান নীরবে নগরবাসীর উপকার করছে। সবাই যদি নিজ নিজ জায়গা থেকে গাছ রোপণ করে, তাহলে একদিন এই নগরীতে সবুজের ঘাটতি অনেকটাই পূরণ হবে।’
রাজধানীর ছাদে বাগান করার বিষয়টি ব্যক্তিগত শখের চিন্তা থেকে শুরু হলেও এখন তা পরিবেশ রক্ষার দিকে ঝুঁকেছে। এটি এখন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দায়িত্ব মনে করছেন অনেকেই। কারণ তথ্য বলছে, প্রায় তিন দশকে রাজধানীতে গাছের হার ২০ থেকে প্রায় ৮ শতাংশ এলাকায় এসে ঠেকেছে। এতে প্রতি বছরে বাড়ছে তাপমাত্রা। এই পরিস্থিতিতে ছাদবাগান পরিবেশ রক্ষায় অন্যতম ভরসা উঠতে পারে।
ছাদবাগানের কথা উঠলে ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি করপোরেশনের (ডিএনসিসি) প্রয়াত মেয়র আনিসুল হকের কথা চলে আসে। ২০১৫ সালে তিনি ঘোষণা দেন, ছাদবাগান করলে হোল্ডিং ট্যাক্সে ছাড় দেওয়া হবে। এ উদ্যোগের মাধ্যমে ডিএনসিসি এলাকায় ছাদবাগানকারীরা হোল্ডিং ট্যাক্সে ১০ শতাংশ মওকুফের সুবিধা পেতে শুরু করেন, যা এখনও বিদ্যমান। তবে বিষয়টি অনেকে জানেন না।
ধানমন্ডি, মহানগর প্রজেক্ট, আফতাবনগর, মিরপুর, মগবাজারসহ বিভিন্ন এলাকা ঘুরে অনেক ছাদে বাগান দেখা গেছে। এসব এলাকায় নতুন ফ্ল্যাটে ছাদবাগান করা হচ্ছে। পাশাপাশি পুরোনো বাসার ছাদেও গাছ লাগাচ্ছেন অনেকে; যদিও এতে ঝুঁকি আছে।
ঢাকায় বিশেষভাবে ছাদে লাগানোর জন্য উপযোগী গাছ, বীজ, মাটির চাহিদা গত ১০ বছরে অনেক বেশি বেড়েছে বলে জানান চারা ও বীজ বিক্রেতা শামসুল হোসেন। তিনি বলেন, ‘ঢাকায় গরম যেমন বাড়ছে, তার লগে বাড়ছে গাছ কিইন্না ছাদে লাগানোর চাহিদা।’
গ্রিন সেভার্স নামে একটি অনলাইনভিত্তিক প্রতিষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে গাছের পরিচর্যা ও চিকিৎসা দিয়ে আসছেন আহসান রনি। তিনি মনে করেন, বাংলাদেশে ছাদবাগান হচ্ছে, কিন্তু অনেক ক্ষেত্রেই পরিকল্পনাটা সঠিকভাবে হচ্ছে না।
রনি বলেন, ‘কোন গাছ রোপণ করা দরকার, পরিচর্যা কেমন হবে, কতটুকু দূরত্বে রোপণ করা হবে ইত্যাদি বিষয় খেয়াল রেখে আধুনিক ছাদবাগান করা উচিত।’
বিভিন্ন মাধ্যমের তথ্য অনুযায়ী, ঢাকা শহরে গত পাঁচ বছরে গড় তাপমাত্রা ধারাবাহিকভাবে বেড়েছে। ২০২৪ সালে বেশ কয়েকবার ৪০ ডিগ্রি সেলসিয়াস ছাড়িয়ে গেছে তাপমাত্রা, যা ১৯৬৫ সালের পর সর্বোচ্চ হিসেবে রেকর্ড করা হয়। এর অন্যতম প্রধান কারণ গাছপালার অভাব। রাজধানীতে গাছ বা সবুজ এলাকা শহরের আয়তনের ৮ শতাংশের কম। আদর্শ শহরে ২০ থেকে ২৫ শতাংশ থাকা প্রয়োজন।
গবেষণার মাধ্যমে পাওয়া তথ্য তুলে ধরে স্ট্যামফোর্ড বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পরিবেশবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের প্রধান অধ্যাপক আহমদ কামরুজ্জামান মজুমদার বলেন, ঢাকা শহরে প্রায় ৫০ লাখ পরিবারের বাস। এসব পরিবার মোটামুটি পাঁচ লাখ ভবনে বসবাস করে। যদি গড়ে হিসাব করা হয়, পাঁচ লাখ ভবনের ৬০ শতাংশ ছাদে বাগান করার উপযোগিতা আছে। সেক্ষেত্রে তিন লাখ ছাদ পাওয়া যায়, যেগুলোতে বাগান করা যায়। বর্তমানে রাজধানীতে যত ছাদ আছে, এর মধ্যে বাগান রয়েছে প্রায় পাঁচ শতাংশে।
আমরা একটি গবেষণায় দেখেছি, সবুজের উপস্থিতি যেখানে বেশি, সেখানে তাপমাত্রা ২ থেকে ৪ ডিগ্রি কম।
চ্যালেঞ্জের কথা উল্লেখ করে এই পরিবেশবিদ বলেন, ছাদবাগানের ক্ষেত্রে আমাদের দেশীয় প্রজাতিকে বেছে নেওয়া দরকার। দেশীয় ফল-ফুল গাছের প্রতি গুরুত্ব দিতে হবে। তা না হলে পরিবেশের ভারসাম্য রক্ষায় এ বাগানের তেমন ভূমিকা থাকবে না।
নাটোরের নলডাঙ্গায় স্টেশনে পানি নিতে নেমে ট্রেনের ধাক্কায় মুক্তার হোসেন (২৭) নামের এক যুবকের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। শুক্রবার (২৯ নভেম্বর) বিকেল চারটার দিকে উপজেলার মাধনগর রেলওয়ে স্টেশনে এই দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে।

মাধনগর রেলওয়ে স্টেশন মাস্টার মো. মোমিন উদ্দিন নিহতের সত্যতা নিশ্চিত করেছেন।
প্রত্যক্ষদর্শীরা জানান, বিকেলে মুক্তার হোসেন দিনাজপুর থেকে বাংলাবান্ধা ট্রেনে করে রাজশাহী যাচ্ছিলেন। ট্রেনটি মাধনগরে ষ্টেশনে বিরতি দিলে পানি নেওযার জন্য মুক্তার হোসেন নামলে ঢাকা থেকে দিনাজপুরগামী একতা ট্রেনের সঙ্গে ধাক্কা লাগে। এতে গুরুতর আহত হন মুক্তার হোসেন। আহত অবস্থায় এলাকাবাসী মুক্তারকে উদ্ধার করে নাটোর আধুনিক সদর হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করে। সেখানে কর্তব্যরত চিকিৎসক তাকে মৃত ঘোষণা করেন।

A zebroid is the offspring of any cross between a zebra and any other equine to create a hybrid. In most cases, the sire is a zebra stallion but not every time. The offspring of a donkey sire and zebra dam, called a donkra, and the offspring of a horse sire and a zebra dam, called a hebra, do exist, but are rare and are usually sterile. Zebroids have been bred since the 19th century. Charles Darwin noted several zebra hybrids in his works.[1]
