Story of the SUPER Dovee!

Story of the SUPER Dovee!
Bongsong · 10 months ago
In 2009, I received an email seeking help. It said, “I’m trying to find a loving home for Dovee, a white pigeon I have in my bathtub in Pacifica, CA.” And that is how the story of Cheryl and SUPER Dovee began.
Cheryl was new to birds but a lover of animals and she was determined to help this stray King pigeon that had been hanging around a neighborhood shopping center. She had initially found him a home but he had been returned and needed another. MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue was full up and the best we could offer at the time was coaching about how to care for him and a spot on our waiting list.
Cheryl was a quick study and took wonderful care of Dovee while he waited for an opening with MickaCoo. Cheryl began volunteering with us at outreach events all over the Bay Area, helping to inspire support for these smart, gentle birds that are so under-served and overlooked. And she continued to foster Dovee until the day someone inquired about adopting him- that’s when she realized that Dovee was already home- with her, and on October 4th, 2009, Cheryl officially adopted Dovee.
I call Dovee “SUPER Dovee” not because he is so special and charismatic (which he is) nor because he looks so good in his SUPER Dovee Pigeon Pants, complete with cape (which he does) but because he brought with him Cheryl- an incredibly amazing supporter for MickaCoo. Cheryl has invested thousands of hours of her time as a volunteer these past four years and donated thousands of dollars. She has lovingly fostered more than 100 pigeons and doves in her five-star aviary and bird room. Cheryl has introduced thousands of event-goers to the plight and potential of these birds; logged thousands of miles on the road; donated nearly a ton of pigeon feed and hosted five $1K Garage Sale Fundraisers for MickaCoo. Cheryl has braved heartbreaking rescues including saving homing pigeons used for testing in a university lab and 216 Persian High Flyers abandoned in filthy sheds. Cheryl serves as the Chair of MickaCoo’s Advisory Committee and our Financial Coordinator and inspires all of us every day with her big, strong heart.

As a college student, your number one priority is to learn. What you need to realize early on in your college career is that your learning is not, and should not, only be located in the classroom. Learn from every experience! Better yet, learn from the successes and failures of others. To do that, you have to be intentional with your experience...and actually have learning experiences.

The lifecycle of a new Instagram follower
Bongsong · 10 months ago
Each different post type on Instagram has different benefits and advantages in the algorithms that help you generate engagement, deepen your relationship with your audience, or expand your reach. And yes - I did say algorithms, plural. During Instagram's Creators Week, we got a bit of an insight into how all of these different formats play together and how the app determines what our followers see and don't see. According to Instagram themselves, there are multiple different algorithms for the different formats of content - feed, IGTV, Reels, etc - and so understanding that these different pieces are treated and distributed differently, and therefore play different roles is essential to building a cohesive strategy.

These different post types also play different roles in the lifecycle of a new follower - or the funnel, you could say, of how new people find you and get to know you on Instagram. And I want to share that framework with you as well in this episode because I think it will be helpful for you to understand how all of these different types of content play a role in someone new getting to know you, and your follower's journey overall. It's really similar to making a new friend because ultimately I believe that growing your presence on Instagram, at least in the beginning, should be about building relationships and growing friendships.
The five types of Instagram posts and how to use them in your Instagram growth strategy
Bongsong · 10 months ago
Over the years since it's release in 2010, Instagram continues to get more and more complex all the time with different ways to post and browse content on the app. This leaves a lot of content creators, especially beginners, confused about which kind of content to create, when, and why. From feed posts, to Reels, to stories, and IGTV - there are so many ways to reach your audience on Instagram, and each of these different formats have advantages and disadvantages for how they generate reach, engagement, and convert followers into true fans. In this blog post, I'm going to give you the ultimate guide to all of the 5 main types of Instagram posts, what their benefits and disadvantages are, and how they should fit into your content strategy for growth!
Instagram Reels vs Image Posts: Which One Is Right for Your Brand?
Bongsong · 10 months ago
Since the platform debuted Reels in August 2020, they’ve become a dominant force in social media. Creating reels is one of the best ways to get in front of non-followers. In fact, the spring 2024 Instagram algorithm update is built specifically to recommend reels to your followers and non-followers at the same time. So Reels are clearly the best type of content on Instagram, right?
It's not that simple.
Let's start by getting the terminology straight. There are three major types of content you can publish on Instagram:
Reels - any type of video published to Instagram
Images - still images and photographs
Stories - a series of images and/or videos that are available for only 24 hours
Technically, all of these count as "posts," but they are all governed by different Instagram algorithms. Stories live in a different part of the app, so we won't be focusing on them in this article. Reels also have a separate feed in the app, but both images and Reels can be published to your grid and can show up in your followers' feed.
Since Instagram started as a photo-sharing app, the word "posts" or the phrase "in-feed posts" typically refers to a photo or image post. Standard video posts also used to be a thing, but now all videos published on Instagram are considered Reels.
While Reels can expand your brand's reach, image posts are still a viable way to connect with your audience. To nail a successful Instagram strategy you can't just choose one or the other. But when you're deciding which format to prioritize, several factors come into play, including your social media goals, your audience's preferences, and the resources you have available.
In this article, we're going to look at the difference between Instagram Reels and Instagram image posts (aka "in-feed posts"). We’ll talk about the advantages of each and how to balance posting Reels and photos to your grid and followers' feed.
What is an Instagram post?
Technically everything that you publish to your grid and that shows up in your followers' feeds is considered an Instagram post. Both Reels and image posts fall into this category. There used to be more of a distinction between Reels and standard video posts. However, Instagram has deprecated standard video posts into Reels.

Bongsong · 10 months ago
The Indian subcontinent harbours huge genetic diversity. Researchers found that the earliest populations were hunter-gatherers who arrived from Africa more than 50,000 years ago. Further waves of settlement came from the direction of Iran, after the last Ice Age ended 10-20,000 years ago.
