The Rafflesia is the largest flower on the planet but doesnβt in fact have its own roots or stems. Instead, it attaches itself to a host plant, the Tetrastigma vine, to obtain the necessary water and nutrients. It is sometimes known as the Corpse Flower because of the rotten odour it produces to attract blow fly's which in turn pollinate other flowers they visit. The flower takes roughly 27 months to mature and then only stays open for 5 - 7 days!
