Buddhism is a religion rooted in the ideas of Siddhartha Gautama, and the number of Buddhist followers has grown significantly over the last century. In 1910, researchers reported that Buddhism had a following of approximately 138 million individuals, primarily concentrated throughout Asia. By 2010, that number had reached roughly 495 million, with a larger population size outside of Asia. Between 2000 and 2010, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar were two of the countries with the fastest growth in the practice of Buddhism. Australia also reported that Buddhism was the country's fastest growing religion in terms of percentage, with a growth rate of 79.1% between 1996 and 2001.

Sociologists predict that the global Buddhist population will increase to 511 million by 2030, but then experience a decline over the following 2 decades. These researchers claim that the population will return to its current size by 2050. This decline is expected due to a low birth rate in Buddhist women and an aging population that will not be replaced by younger generations. This change means that the worldwide percentage of Buddhists, which is currently around 7%, will drop to only 5% in 2050, taking global population increase into account. The Gomati District with its headquarter at Udaipur was created in the year 2012. Udaipur is popularly known as the city of lakes and was the capital of Tripura till 1760 A.D. The city is famous for its Mata Tripura Sundari Temple which is situated about 3 km away from Udaipur at Matabari. The temple is one of the 51 Mahapithasthans of India. The Gomati figures prominently in Tripura’s indigenous folklore, culture, religious rites and ritual so much so that tribal people perform posthumous rites dedicated to their departed near and dear ones on the bank of the river Gomati in the conviction that ablution with the consecrated water of the sacred river will pave the way for ascendance to heaven of their departed dear ones. As part of the administrative reorganisation effected in October last year the Gomati district comprising Udaipur, Amarpur and newly created Karbook subdivisions was created as a truncated version of the erstwhile South Tripura district.Topographically,the Gomati district is marked by lush green and fertile Gomati valleys and the towering Debtamura hill range which straddles Udaipur and Amarpur subdivisions of the district with its exquisite sculptural works carved on panels of the hills.

Udaipur, Tripura’s historic capital, is situated on the banks of the Gomati river. About 53km from Agartala, this small town can be easily accessed via road from the capital city.

Referred to as the ‘Lake City’, the town serves as the headquarters of the Gomati District. Udaipur was the capital of the Manikya kings, till Maharaja Krishna Chandra Manikya Bahadur moved the capital to Agartala.

Formerly known as Rangamati, Udaipur is dotted with many beautiful lakes and ancient temples. The Tripura Sundari Temple is the holiest shrine for the people of this state, while some of the popular lakes, which are frequented by tourists, include Kalyan Sagar, Mahadeb Dighi, Jagannath Dighi, Amar Sagar and Dhani Sagar.

Jampui Hills is a hill range located in the North Tripura district in the north eastern part of the Indian state of Tripura. The average altitude of the hill range is approximately 1000 metres above sea level. 
‘Jampui Hill – The permanent seat of spring’ is situated at an altitude of about 3000 feet above the sea level and about 250 kilometers away from Agartala, the capital of Tripura. Jampui is famous for it’s charming landscape and bracing climate. The hill range consists of cluster of tribal villages and is the home for colourful Lusai and Reang tribal communities.
The neat and clean traditional wooden houses of the local inhabitants combined with greenery all around provide excellent opportunities for eco-friendly tourism in the hill range. During November every year, the unique Orange festival is celebrated in the Jampui hill where a large number of tourists both domestic and foreign, participate and enjoy.
‘Eden Tourist Lodge’ at Vanghmun village in the Jampui hill which has a capacity of 20 persons to stay in well equipped with all modern amenities. In addition, local hospitable Lusai people have also constructed ‘paying guest accommodation’ in their houses. Boating facility in the Sabual village of the hill range has been developed where other water sports facilities will also be provided shortly.

There are 48 islands dotting the lake, which is home to numerous birds o all shapes and colours. Migratory birds, water sport facilities including boating facility and variety of wildlife are an additional attraction. The lake also acquires a rich reservoir of natural fishes. This is also the place which is near to the Tirthamukh Pilgrim Centre and where Poush Makar Sankranti Fair is held each year.

Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary in Tripura, India of some 18.53 square kilometres (7.15 sq mi), about 25 kilometres (16 mi) from the city centre, located in Bishalgarh. It is a woodland with an artificial lake and natural botanical and zoological gardens. It is famous for its clouded leopard enclosures. The sanctuary contains a variety of birds, primates, and other animals. The terrain is green throughout the year and the weather is temperate except for the two humid summer months of March and April. It gives shelter to about 150 species of birds and the unique bespectacled monkey, Phayre's langur.
The primate section consists of four species (rhesus macaque, pig-tailed macaque, capped langur and spectacled langur). The crab-eating mongoose (last sighted in the 1930s) has been resuscitated. The sanctuary has been developed both as a wildlife sanctuary and as an academic and research centre. About 150 species of birds live in the sanctuary, and migratory birds visit in winter. Initiated in 1972 the sanctuary has five sections: carnivores, primates, ungulates, reptiles and aviary. There are several lakes;among which Amrit Sagar named lake have boating facility.
There is an accommodation at the forest where a dak bungalow, called Abasarika, near the botanical garden, zoo and boating lake attracts the tourists to have a night adventure in the middle of the forest which is a great experience.

The Ujjayanta Palace surroundings contain several temples idolized by the populace. The temples of Jagganath and Ummaneshwar are situated just opposite to each other on the green elongates of grass within the Palace yard. Culturally and geographically Tripura distinguishes itself more with West Bengal, than the other North East states. Therefore, it is usual to find Gods, Goddess and temples corresponding each other in these two states of India.

Ham Ham Waterfall, also known as Hamham Falls, is a stunning and relatively unexplored natural attraction located in the lush forested region of Kailashahar in the Indian state of Tripura. This secluded waterfall is nestled amidst the verdant greenery and rugged terrain of the Jampui Hills, which are part of the larger Barail Range. Accessing Ham Ham Waterfall is an adventure in itself, requiring visitors to embark on a trek through the dense forest. The trek path is not well marked, and it's essential to have a local guide. As trekkers navigate the moist deciduous forest, they are often accompanied by the sounds of wildlife and the rustling of leaves. Upon reaching the waterfall, visitors are greeted by the magnificent sight of water cascading down from a height of about 100 meters, creating a mesmerizing spray and a serene pool below. The waterfall is surrounded by steep rock faces and the rich biodiversity of the forest, offering a tranquil escape for nature enthusiasts and a perfect spot for photography.
