Some of the Botanical Wonders of Guyana
By Dmitri Allicock
With over its 80% unspoiled rainforest, Guyana is a hothouse of interest at every turn to botanist. To each region, distinct plant associations are found according to the differences of soil and its formation. From the alluvial flat coastal plains that slowly rises to the rich vegetation covered sand dunes, river valleys, wet savannahs, hills and untouched mountains, the transition from one region to another is for the most part gradual and is never so abrupt that distinct zones of flora are defined. The form and color of nature 🌈
The soil is pure 👍
On top of it is green 🌿
On top of it is white and black clouds ☁️
On top of it is the blue sky 🔵
This is how we eat the air of nature 🌬️
In the midst of it we live 🏡

Inland and coastal wetlands can remove carbon and other greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and transfer them into the wetlands’ soil as organic soil matter. Wetland producers remove carbon dioxide through photosynthesis2. Then, they convert it into cellulose and other carbon compounds before it becomes soil organic matter.
The Everglades National Park comprises several significant habitats such as extensive mangrove forests, freshwater sloughs, saltwater marshes, tropical hardwood hammocks, cypress, and pine woodlands, open sawgrass prairies, marl prairies, wet prairies, islands of Florida Bay, and seagrass ecosystems. This vast network of wetlands and forests that make up the fragile ecosystem of the National park is fed by a very shallow, slow-moving river water from Lake Okeechobee. The Park also features the largest contiguous stand of protected mangrove ecosystem in the entire Western Hemisphere.
The Sahara is built up of a diverse amount of geographic landscapes, comprising mainly of sand dunes, gravel plains, rocky plateaus, and even some mountain ranges, such as the Ahaggar (with peaks rising above 9,500 feet) and Tibesti ranges (containing Mount Emi Koussi, a peak that rises a lofty 11,204 feet). Its iconic sand dunes, particularly in Algeria and Libya, can reach heights of up to 180 meters!
The Sahara Desert's expansion is causing significant environmental and socio-economic issues. As mentioned, the southward creep of the desert into the Sahel is exacerbating drought conditions, making it difficult for local populations to maintain their agricultural and pastoral livelihoods. The loss of this farmland leads to food insecurity, pushing communities into poverty and increasing competition for resources. This can, and sometimes has, resulted in conflict and displacement as people migrate in search of more habitable areas.
Located on the islands of Borneo, the Lower Kinabatangan Segama Wetlands span an area of 788.03 square km. The site was added to the Ramsar List on October 28, 2008. The wetland area constitutes three Forest Reserves, the Kuala Maruap and Kuala Segama Forest Reserve, Kulamba Wildlife Reserve, and the Trusan Kinabatangan Forest Reserve. These wetlands serve as an important habitat for numerous resident and migratory birds. They are also a vital habitat of the Bornean orangutans and are significant for the conservation of orangutans.
Create an abstract landscape filled with vibrant colors that give off a dynamic sense of movement. The scene should be a combination of vivid hues which collectively create an intricate and surreal ecosystem. This could include kaleidoscopic skies, fluorescent green hills, purple rivulets, and much more, all bending and twisting in a manner that defies the constraints of conventional landscapes. The resulting image should embody the spirit of abstraction, with its vibrant colors and dynamic arrangement creating a dramatic visual effect
A landscape brimming with the beauty of nature, reminiscent of the Impressionist era. A sparkling river winds its way through a lush, green meadow, where colorful wildflowers sway in the gentle breeze. Tall trees draped in thick foliage create a soothing backdrop, their leaves dappling the light to create a mosaic of sun and shade on the ground. A blue sky dotted with fluffy, white clouds stretches endlessly overhead, completing this picturesque scene of tranquility. The scene is done in a style characterized by small, thin, yet visible brush strokes, capturing the essence of light and its changing qualities.
A vast and diverse landscape: one area is covered by a lush green forest, with foliage reflecting the brilliant colors of the sunset. Adjacent, a rocky mountain range shoots up into vividly blue skies, their snowy peaks glistening under the bright sun. A fast-flowing river carves its path through the valley, leading to a serene, cyan-colored lake surrounded by a few cottages. Nearby, a vast open field of marigold flowers sways gently in the wind. Birds and butterflies add a touch of life, fluttering around in this vibrant panorama.
