Zebras' black and white stripes are a natural bug repellent and marker of individual identification. 
Zebra foals are born with brown and white stripes. Some even have spots. 
Their adaptive digestive system allows them to efficiently extract energy from fibrous grasses, contributing to their survival in environments with scarce food.
Zebra stripes regulate their body temperature and help them camouflage themselves in the African continent.

IUCN reported Plains Zebras to be near threatened. However, a 2020 study reported that the population had decreased by 25% since 20021.

IUCN categorized Mountain Zebras as Vulnerable3. With over 34,000 mature individuals, its population is rising due to the recovery from a drought in the 80s. However, the threat remains, hence the vulnerable status.

The most unfortunate of the three zebra species is the endangered Grévy's zebra. Its population declined by more than half for the last three decades2. Habitat degradation, competition with livestock, and local hunting are the top threats that led to their status.

Save the Stripes, launched by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, focuses on conserving the endangered Grevy's zebra in Kenya. It works on habitat protection, anti-poaching, and community engagement.
Grevy's Zebra Trust conserves the Grevy's zebra in Ethiopia and Kenya. They conduct monitoring, research, and community outreach programs to ensure the survival of this endangered species.
The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) works to conserve key African landscapes, including zebra habitats. It uses community-based conservation projects, habitat protection, and anti-poaching initiatives.

1979:
The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) included Grevy's zebras in its appendices, regulating their international trade.

2008:
The IUCN moved down the status of Mountain Zebras from Endangered to Vulnerable.

2010:
The UN General Assembly declared 2011-2020 as the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity, indirectly promoting zebra conservation efforts.

2015:
The UN adopted the Sustainable Development Goals, which include targets related to wildlife conservation.

2016:
The IUCN updated the status of the Plains zebra from Least Concern to Near Threatened.

অনেকে এটাকেই বিয়ের পর মোটা হওয়ার মূল কারণ মনে করেন। দেখা গেছে, বিয়ের পর নিয়মিত শারীরিক সম্পর্কের কারণে মেয়েদের শরীরে ইস্ট্রোজেন হরমোন বাড়ে। এই হরমোনের কারণে খাদ্য থেকে চর্বি শোষণ হওয়ার পর দেহে জমতে থাকে। সেজন্য একজন বিবাহিত মেয়ে সহজেই মোটা হয়ে যায়।

বিয়ের আগে সব মেয়ের মধ্যেই নিজেকে ফিট রাখার এক ধরনের প্রচেষ্টা থাকে। সেই সময় তারা নিজের ওজন ধরে রাখতে নানাভাবে চেষ্টা করেন। কিন্তু বিয়ের পরে সেই আগ্রহে ভাটা পড়ে। অনেকের মধ্যেই এক ধরনের গা-ছাড়া ভাব চলে আসে। জীবনসঙ্গী খুঁজে পাওয়ার পর তারা নিজের চেহারা ও ফিটনেস নিয়ে ভাবা বন্ধ করে দেন। যে কারণে ওজন বেড়ে যায়।

বিয়ের পর মেয়েদের নিরাপত্তা অনেকটা বেড়ে যায়। মানসিকভাবে তারা চিন্তামুক্ত হন। চিন্তাভাবনা কমার কারণে শরীর রিল্যাক্সড হয়। এর থেকেও ওজন বাড়তে পারে।

বিয়ের পরপরই বন্ধুবান্ধব আত্মীয়-স্বজনদের বাড়িতে ধারাবাহিক নিমন্ত্রণ থাকে। এসব অনুষ্ঠানে ডায়েট মেনে চলা সম্ভব হয় না। ফলে বারবার মসলাদার খাবার খেতে খেতে ওজন বেড়ে যায়। অন্যদিকে নবদম্পতি বাইরে বেরিয়ে সময় কাটাতে ভালোবাসে। এ সময় জাংকফুড খাওয়া হয় প্রচুর। ফলে ওজন বাড়ে।

বিয়ের পর গর্ভধারণের প্রস্তুতির সময় শরীরে চর্বি জমা হতে পারে। এ ছাড়া গর্ভধারণের সময় ওজন বাড়া স্বাভাবিক। অনেক ক্ষেত্রে সন্তান জন্মের পর বেড়ে যাওয়া ওজন আর কমে না। ফলে মোটা শরীর রয়ে যায়।

বিয়ের আগে বাবার বাড়িতে যে অভ্যাসে অভ্যস্ত ছিল, সেই অভ্যাস ও রীতি শ্বশুরবাড়িতে গিয়ে অনেক ক্ষেত্রে বজায় থাকে না। সংসারের কাজের জন্য রাতে ঘুম কম হওয়ায় শরীরে অপ্রয়োজনীয় মেদ জমতে থাকে। রাতের পর রাত না ঘুমানো, ঘুমাতে যাওয়ার সময় নির্দিষ্ট না হওয়ায় স্থূলতার দিকে এগোতে থাকেন অনেক বিবাহিত নারী।

যেসব মেয়ে বিয়ের আগে নিয়মিত ব্যায়াম বা শরীরচর্চা করতেন, বিয়ের পরে তাদের সেই অভ্যাসে ভাটা পড়ে। কারণ নতুন বাড়িতে গিয়ে রুটিন এলমেল হয়ে যায়। তাতে শরীরচর্চা করার সময় থাকে না। ফলে ওজন বাড়ে।

বিয়ের পর অনেক মেয়েরই মানসিক চাপ বাড়তে পারে। বিশেষ করে যারা পেশাদার, তাদের ক্ষেত্রে অফিসের চাপের পাশাপাশি নতুন সংসারের চাপ তৈরি হয়। এই দ্বৈত মানসিক চাপও ওজন বাড়িয়ে দিতে পারে।

বিয়ের আগে একজন মেয়ে নানা কারণে বাইরে যায়। যার মধ্যে আছে ক্লাস জয়েন করা, মার্কেটিংয়ে যাওয়া, বন্ধুবান্ধবদের সঙ্গে আড্ডা কিংবা আত্মীয়-স্বজনের বাড়ি বেড়ানো। বিয়ের পর এসব কাজে ভাটা পড়ে। অনেক মেয়েই ঘরবন্দি হয়ে যান। ফলে আগে যে ক্যালরি খরচ হতো সেটা বন্ধ হয়ে যায়।

মানুষ যখন ভালোবাসা পায়, নিরাপদ বোধ করে ও সুখী হয়, তখন তার খাবারের প্রতি আকর্ষণ বেড়ে যায়। বিশেষ করে মিষ্টি ও পনিরজাতীয় খাবারের প্রতি চাহিদা বাড়ে। এই ধরনের ‘কমফোর্ট ফুড’ খাওয়ার অভ্যাস ওজন বৃদ্ধির কারণ হতে পারে।
