Grand Mosque of Kuwait

The Grand Mosque (Arabic: ุงู„ู…ุณุฌุฏ ุงู„ูƒุจูŠุฑ) is the largest mosque in Kuwait. Its area spans 45,000 square metres (480,000 sq ft), out of which the building itself covers 20,000 square metres (220,000 sq ft). The main prayer hall is 72 metres (236 ft) wide on all sides, and has teakwood doors. Natural lighting is provided by 144 windows.[1]

Great Mosque of Sanaa

The Great Mosque of Sana'a (Arabic: ุงู„ุฌุงู…ุน ุงู„ูƒุจูŠุฑ ุจุตู†ุนุงุกโ€Ž, al-Jฤmiสฟ al-Kabฤซr bi-แนขanสฟฤสพ) is an ancient mosque in Sana'a, Yemen, and one of the oldest mosques in the world.[1] The mosque is said to have been founded in the early Islamic period, suggested to be in 633.[2][3][4][5] While the precise date of construction is unknown, the earliest recorded renovations occurred under Caliph al-Walid I in the early 8th century, implying a possible earlier date of construction.[4] The mosque was reportedly built in part from spolia from the Himyarite-era Ghumdan Palace and from the Axumite Christian Church of al-Qalis that formerly occupied the site.[1][4] The Great Mosque is the largest and most notable of over one hundred mosques in the Old City of Sanaโ€™a.[3]

Al-Fateh Grand Mosque

The Al-Fateh Mosque (also known as Al-Fateh Islamic Center & Al Fateh Grand Mosque) (Arabic: ู…ุณุฌุฏ ุงู„ูุงุชุญ; transliterated: Masjid al-Fatih) was one of the largest mosques in the world, encompassing 6,500 square meters and having the capacity to accommodate over 7,000 worshippers at a time.[2] The mosque was built by the late Sheikh Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa in 1987 and was named after Ahmed Al Fateh. In 2006, Al-Fateh became the site of the National Library of Bahrain.

The Shฤซ'as consider 'Alฤซ as their first Imฤm and the first of the twelve caliphs of Muhammad, and the Sunnis regard him as the fourth Sunni Rashid Caliph.[1] According to Shฤซ'ite belief,[2] buried next to 'Alฤซ within this mosque are the remains of Adam and Nuh (Noah).[2][3] Each year, millions of pilgrims visit the Shrine and pay tribute to Imฤm 'Alฤซ.

There is a smaller replica of this mosque in Surakarta, a city in Indonesia.[2] The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan built this mosque to convey historic consequence and to embody the Islamic message of peace, tolerance and diversity.
