Mandrake the Magician is a syndicated newspaper comic strip, created by Lee Falk before he created The Phantom.[1][2] Mandrake began publication on June 11, 1934. Phil Davis soon took over as the strip's illustrator, while Falk continued to script. The strip was distributed by King Features Syndicate.[3]
English: no copyright renewal was found for the first strip from June 11th nor June 14th or 15th (true debuts of Mandrake and Lothar) under the King Features Illustrated Weekly books nor the name of the strip itself: https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/11825/pg11825-images.html. Therefore the earliest version of the character as depicted here is public domain. Last image i'm uploading to Wikimedia for now since i'm a bit burned up. I was gonna upload Flash Gordon but maybe not until next month. Date 15 June 1934 Source Mandrake The Magician June 15th 1934 Strip Author Lee Falk
