Christmas Gingerbread Cookies
I'm generally more into gingerbread for the decorating than the eating, but these little guys changed my bah-humbug perspective. Compared to other packaged gingerbread cookies, the Little Debbie variety is chewy, soft, mildly spicy (yay), and deliciously versatile. There's just enough sweet white icing and festive razzle-dazzle to enjoy them right out of the package. But you could also gather your family and friends around the table to spruce them up. Offer candy eyes, mini M&Ms, and icing to create sweet gingerbread guy and gal faces. Or, flip the cookies upside down, and you've got the makings of gingerbread reindeer. I love that they're individually wrapped and just the right size for little hands (or smaller portions). Unwrapped and lined up on a party tray, I don't think anyone would guess β or care β these darlings come out of a $3 carton from the corner market. (Truth be told, you can even find them at Menards.) If you have no time to bake this December, no problem. Little Debbie Christmas Gingerbread Cookies hit all the nostalgic notes of storied gingerbread without the hassle of making them yourself. |

Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange takes on Mads Mikkelsen's Kaecilius in epic new fight scene
Marvel's latest superhero movie, Doctor Strange, hits cinemas in a few days, but you can watch its stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Mads Mikkelsen battle it out in a newly-released clip. Ad Cumberbatch stars as Stephen Strange, a neuroscientist who is injured in a car accident and subsequently discovers a world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Mikkelsen plays villain Kaecilius, a master of the mystic arts who breaks away to form his own sect. The special effects look as impressive as we've come to expect from a Marvel movie, and the fight is slick and well-choreographed, showing Doctor Strange still finding his feet when it comes to his fighting skills and new powers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj96BTSJ8yE |

Large herbivores such as elephants contribute to tree diversity
A recent study using satellite data has highlighted the critical role that large herbivores play in promoting tree diversity in forest ecosystems. The research showed that areas with abundant large herbivores like elephants had more varied tree cover and more tree diversity. This finding underscores the importance of large herbivores in many ecosystems and that they should have primary importance in conservation strategies, particularly in the context of global efforts to combat climate change and extinction. Help big herbivores every time you shop and #Boycottpalmoil and #Boycott4Wildlife in the supermarket! |

Arizona Black Rattlesnake (Crotalus cerberus)
The Arizona Black Rattlesnake is a venomous species found in Arizona, New Mexico, and some regions of Mexico. Their black or dark grey coloration allows them to blend seamlessly into the surroundings. They prey on small mammals such as mice, rats, squirrels, birds, or lizards and have a unique behavior of 'tail-flagging' as a warning to potential predators. Although encounters with this species are rare, always observe them from a safe distance. |

Leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea)
The leatherback sea turtle is the largest and heaviest living turtle. It can grow to 5ft 11in and weighs up to 500kg. It is the only living species of the dermocheltdae family, characterized by a different shell structure from other turtle shells. Other turtle shells have a bony structure, but the leatherback turtleβs shell is oily and flexible, like leather, hence the name. You will find leatherback turtles in the Atlantic, eastern Pacific, and western Pacific oceans. In addition, they inhabit all tropical and subtropical oceans. Adult leatherback turtles feed on jellyfish, fish, sea urchins, snails, cnidaria, and tunicates. Also, the leatherback has a relatively long lifespan and can live up to 50 years or more. Sadly, leatherback turtles are endangered due to overharvesting and human encroachment on their natural habitats3. |

Other Herbs Flowers
Apart from mint, other herb varieties such as borage, thyme, and rosemary deserve a mention of their own. Rosemary is a bee favorite because of the differently colored flowers it has to offer in the spring season. There are several different types of rosemary herbs, all attracting bees equally well. |

Despite their size, they are herbivores
Though rhinos are overwhelmingly big, they are proud herbivores3. These giants live in habitats that offer vast vegetation like forests, savannas, grasslands, and floodplains of Africa and Asia. Specific diets vary across species. White rhinos are grazers, relying mainly on grasses in savannas and grasslands. With their wide lips, they are well-suited for grazing on short grasses. On the other hand, Black rhinos are browsers, preferring leaves, shoots, and branches of trees and shrubs in savannas and woodlands. Their pointed upper lip enables them to be highly selective in food choices. Indian rhinos have a more diverse diet than African rhinos (black and white rhinos). They eat various plants, fruits, and aquatic vegetation. Sumatran rhinos are also browsers, feeding on a wide range of vegetation in dense forest habitats, including leaves, fruits, twigs, and bark. Lastly, Javan rhinos, found in the tropical rainforests of Java, are mainly browsers, consuming leaves, fruits, shoots, and other low-growing vegetation. Due to their critically endangered status and limited distribution, limited information is available on their specific dietary preferences. |

Banana plantsBanana plants growing on a plantation. Each herbaceous trunk bears only one bunch of fruit and is cut down after harvest to encourage new growth from the rhizome (underground stem)
The banana plant is a gigantic herb that springs from an underground stem, or rhizome, to form a false trunk 3β6 metres (10β20 feet) high. This trunk is composed of the basal portions of leaf sheaths and is crowned with a rosette of 10 to 20 oblong to elliptic leaves that sometimes attain a length of 3β3.5 metres (10β11.5 feet) and a breadth of 65 cm (26 inches). A large flower spike, carrying numerous yellowish flowers protected by large purple-red bracts, emerges at the top of the false trunk and bends downward to become bunches of 50 to 150 individual fruits, or fingers. The individual fruits, or bananas, are grouped in clusters, or hands, of 10 to 20. After a plant has fruited, it is cut down to the ground, because each trunk produces only one bunch of fruit. The dead trunk is replaced by others in the form of suckers, or shoots, which arise from the rhizome at roughly six-month intervals. The life of a single rhizome thus continues for many years, and the weaker suckers that it sends up through the soil are periodically pruned, while the stronger ones are allowed to grow into fruit-producing plants. |
