They were once found in sub-Saharan Africa.  But with the evolution of time, as human traffic increased, they started to be hunted by hunters and people started living in their areas.

They are nocturnal animals.  That is why they go out in search of food at night and collect food.  They feed on herbivores at night.  They can eat up to 35 kg of food together if they get a favorite herbivore.

Despite being such a large animal, they are very good swimmers and can hold their breath underwater for up to five minutes.  When they dive under water, they automatically close their nose and ears.  So that water can not enter the nose and ears.


এত বড় প্রানী হওয়া সত্ত্বেও এরা খুব দক্ষ সাঁতারু এবং পানির নিচে এরা পাঁচ মিনিট পর্যন্ত নিঃশ্বাস ধরে রাখতে পারে। পানির নিচে ডুব দিলে এরা এদের নাক এবং কান অটোমেটিক বন্ধ করে হয়ে যায়। যা তে করে পানি নাক এবং কানে না ঢুকতে পারে।

They like to move in groups.  Their group members range from 10 to 20 people.  The male hippo leads the group.  The remaining members of the group are female.


এরা গ্রুপে চলাচল করা পছন্দ করে। এদের গ্রুপের সদস্য সংখ্যা ১০ থেকে ২০ জন পর্যন্ত হয়ে থাকে। পুরুষ জলহস্তী গ্রুপের নেতৃত্ব দেয়। গ্রুপের বাকি সদস্যা স্ত্রী জাতের হয়।

Dominant male species of hippopotamus are protective of their own group.  There are many groups under dominant men.  They often put on displays of power over each other.  The mouth performs a wide range of activities including yawning and yawning.

Female hippos are called cows.  They give birth to babies every 2 years.  They usually give birth to one young at a time.  Then they enter their group under the leadership of a strong man.  They do this to escape from more ferocious animals including lions, hyenas, crocodiles.


স্ত্রী প্রজাতির জলহস্তীদের গাভী বলা হয়। এরা ২ বছর পর পর বাচ্চা জন্ম দিয়ে থাকে। এরা সাধারনত একবারে একটি বাচ্চা জন্ম দিয়ে থাকে। এরপর এরা কোন শক্তিশালী পুরুষের নেতৃত্বে তাদের গ্রুপে ঢুকে পড়ে। সিংহ, হায়েনা, কুমির সহ আরও হিংস্র প্রানীর হাত থেকে রক্ষা পাওয়ার জন্য এরা এমন করে থাকে।

They live up to 40 years in their lifespan.  However, in some cases they can live up to 50 years in captivity.  They don't want to lose their power easily.  But they either live or die in the fight with the opponent.  They do not like to live a life of dishonor even if they accept defeat in any case.


এরা এদের জীবনদ্দশায় ৪০ বছর পর্যন্ত বেঁচে থাকে। তবে কোন কোন ক্ষেত্রে বন্দী অবস্থায় এরা ৫০ বছর পর্যন্ত বাঁচতে পারে। এরা তাদের ক্ষমতা সহজে হারাতে চায় না। কিন্তু প্রতিপক্ষের সাথে লড়াই এ এরা হয় বেঁচে থাকে অথবা মারা যায়। কোন ক্ষেত্রে তারা পরাজয় স্বীকার করে নিলেও অসম্মনের জীবন এরা অতিবাহিত করতে পাছন্দ করে না।

The hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius) (/ˌhɪpəˈpɒtəməs/; pl.: hippopotamuses; also shortened to hippo (pl.: hippos), further qualified as the common hippopotamus, Nile hippopotamus, or river hippopotamus, is a large semiaquatic  mammal native to sub-Saharan Africa. It is one of only two extant species in the family Hippopotamidae, the other being the pygmy hippopotamus (Choeropsis liberiensis or Hexaprotodon liberiensis). Its name comes from the ancient Greek for "river horse" (ἱπποπόταμος).

লক্ষ্মীপ্যাঁচা বা লক্ষ্মীপেঁচা (ইংরেজি: Barn Owl; বৈজ্ঞানিক নাম: Tyto alba) এক ধরনের পেঁচা প্রজাতির পক্ষীবিশেষ। মাঝারি থেকে বৃহৎ আকৃতির হয়ে থাকে এ পাখিটি। শরীরের তুলনায় মুখমণ্ডল অনেকাংশেই বড় হয়ে থাকে। লম্বা পাখনা, ফ্যাকাশে ও হৃদয় আকৃতি মুখের গড়ন এবং বর্গাকৃতির লেজ প্রধান এর বৈশিষ্ট্য। অন্যান্য শিকারী পাখি - ঈগল, বাজের ন্যায় এর লম্বা, শক্তিশালী পায়ের থাবার সাথে সুতীক্ষ্ণ নখর রয়েছে।
